NUMARTIS Glass Surfaces · Cast glass with embedded sand texture

Sandcast

About This Variant

Sandcast

Sandcast is NUMAEX's most elemental Numartis technique — molten glass poured directly onto a prepared sand bed, capturing the sand's texture and releasing it as the glass cools. The resulting surface has the deep, cellular texture of natural sand formations, with relief depths from 5mm to 15mm depending on sand grade and pour temperature. No two panels are identical.

The technique produces glass of substantial weight and visual gravity — Sandcast panels are architectural objects with the presence of stone but the translucency of glass. Used as a backlit feature wall, the sand texture creates a surface of extraordinary atmospheric density. As an unlit installation, the relief depth casts strong shadow under any directional light source.

Why NUMAEX

Why NUMARTIS Glass Surfaces by NUMAEX

NUMARTIS surfaces are cast and fired in our atelier as a single piece — no joins to telegraph, no surface laminates to lift, no field-applied finishes to drift over time. The result is a continuous architectural surface with the depth of stone and the optics of glass. Every panel is calibrated to the wall it will live on, not to a catalogue specification.
