NUMARTIS Glass Surfaces · Frosted surface with precision pattern masking

Acid Etch

About This Variant

Acid Etch

Acid Etch is Numartis' most controlled surface technique — a chemical etching process that removes glass surface at precise depths to create a range of textures from fine frost to deep relief. Unlike mechanical sandblasting, acid etching produces a surface with no embedded abrasive particles, resulting in a perfectly clean texture that is safe, durable, and non-porous.

The technique is applied through resist masking to create patterns of any geometric or organic complexity — from fine line work to large-area field etching. The etch depth determines the surface character: at 0.1mm, the result is a pure frost; at 0.5mm, a soft relief begins to emerge; at 1mm and above, the surface gains sculptural dimensionality. Available in custom patterns for bespoke commissions.

Why NUMAEX

Why NUMARTIS Glass Surfaces by NUMAEX

NUMARTIS surfaces are cast and fired in our atelier as a single piece — no joins to telegraph, no surface laminates to lift, no field-applied finishes to drift over time. The result is a continuous architectural surface with the depth of stone and the optics of glass. Every panel is calibrated to the wall it will live on, not to a catalogue specification.
