A picture publisher

NUMAEX traces its origin to 1933, when Mr. Chimanlal founded Chimanlal Chhotalal & Co. in Ahmedabad — a picture publishing house that commissioned artworks by leading Indian artists and built a distribution network reaching every major city in the country. One of those works — “Rama and Sita (Sri Ram Sita)”, in the Ravi Varma Press tradition — now sits in the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection in New York.
Glass entered the family story in the 1950s, when photo-frame glass and mirrors began arriving from Belgium. What began as a small detour from cultural commerce has become — three generations later — a family business measured in 250,000 customers, with 95%+ of them returning or referring.

Where It Has Been Used
NUMAEX glass has been specified in hotel lobbies where a single LUMINOUS feature wall replaced a reception desk as the first thing a guest reads. In private residences, SHOJI partitions running to 4200 mm divide living floors without columns or fixed walls. Spa corridors carry TACTILE kiln-formed panels — Indian Meadows, Endless Sea — where the relief depth shifts the quality of borrowed light from one zone to the next. Master bathrooms combine ODETTE flush pivot doors with PALOMA enclosures and NUMA illuminated mirrors, each surface resolved to the same hardware finish. NUMARTIS art glass surfaces have been bonded to reception walls and boardroom feature panels — a material that reads differently in ambient light than it does when the LUMINOUS backlighting behind it is turned on.
- What kind of projects does NUMAEX work on?
- Residential villas, hotel suites, corporate offices, spa corridors, retail interiors — anywhere glass is doing structural, spatial, or decorative work. Architects specify individual products or full bathroom and partition systems from a single material vocabulary.
- How are NUMAEX products specified?
- Most projects begin with a site survey — measurements taken against eleven criteria, from structure and services to acoustic and compliance requirements. From there, a Design Management team moves the brief through eight stages to a verified production drawing before manufacturing begins.
- Can products from different lines be combined in one project?
- Yes, and they are designed to be. PALOMA shower enclosures, NUMA mirrors, and TYDIS cabinets share hardware finishes so the bathroom reads as a considered whole. SHOJI partition infills accept TACTILE and NUMARTIS glass, and ODETTE door faces can carry the same surface as the wall beside them.
- Is NUMAEX glass available outside Ahmedabad?
- Projects have been delivered across India. Dealers operate through the NUMAEX Partner Portal, which syncs drawings, approvals, and site documentation with the central team in real time.
